Cancer Research UK
This posting is to help raise awareness of Cancer Research UK and the information available to the dental team in Kent and Medway.
Cancer Research UK Facilitators are working in Kent, Surrey and Sussex to drive improvements in cancer prevention and diagnosis. To date, the Facilitators have worked closely with GPs and the CCGs and now they are keen to expand their support to dental health professionals due the important role you play in the diagnosis of oral cancers and the opportunities you have to engage with patients around cancer prevention.
Head and neck cancers are on the rise with incidence rates projected to increase by 33% between 2014 and 2035. With this outlook, training and awareness raising of the tools and resources available to help GDPs spot oral cancers is vital. What’s more, 91% of oral cancers linked to lifestyle factors such as smoking and alcohol consumption and so GDPs are well-placed to communicate these all-important cancer prevention messages to their patients.
Facilitators can provide training during education events in cancer prevention and the CRUK Oral Cancer Toolkit. Also, they can attend events to raise awareness of relevant resources and education for dental professionals. If you would like a Facilitator to attend an up-coming event or meeting, or have any questions please contact Emily Burn, Facilitator Manager South East on email@example.com
