Notice on the restrictions of use and disposal of dental amalgam
A new European Union Regulation 2017/852 on mercury has been published regarding the use and disposal of mercury. Specifically Article 10 of the regulation introduces provisions that will need to be implemented by all dental professionals in the UK.
The attached letter from the Chief Dental Officer gives the imminent requirements to use pre-capsulated amalgam, which amalgam fillings can still be used on and stricter regulations regarding amalgam waste disposal.
Inevitably you can expect a change in the practice inspection checklist and information required if the CQC come t visit your practice.:Share
